USGS Invites Proposals for FY 2025 Earthquake Hazards Research Grants, up to $7M

USGS Seeks Proposals for Earthquake Hazards Research FY 2025 Grants

The United States Geological Survey USGS is currently inviting proposals for Fiscal Year FY 2025 grants to advance the science of earthquake hazards. With a potential funding limit of $7 million, researchers interested in contributing to this field may submit their applications through GRANTS.GOV under Opportunity Number G25AS00240. All FY25 grant proposals must adhere to a maximum page length of 15 pages.

The Earthquake Hazards Program EHP of USGS supports innovative research that enhances our understanding and forecasting capabilities for earthquakes, improving source characterization, reducing uncertnty in hazard assessments, mitigating losses, and enhancing public awareness about seismic events. Proposals should address how these advancements can reduce risks associated with earthquakes through efforts such as earthquake early warning systems or other scientific initiatives.

The annual open application period welcomes submissions from diverse entities including colleges and universities, statelocal offices, non-profit organizations, private institutions, indepent scientistsengineers, foreign groups, among others. Potential projects that have been supported in the past include:

• Short-term earthquake forecasting efforts in California.

• Studies on responses to ShakeAlert-powered early warnings.

• Applications of distributed acoustic sensing DAS for earthquake early warning systems.

• Enhancements to three-dimensional seismic velocitywithin the San Francisco Bay region.

• Simulations of stress evolution on the Wasatch Fault system.

• Analyses of global navigation satellite system GNSS strn rates and uncertnties in the New Madrid Seismic Zone.
