Purpose Overview

Established in 1979 by Congress under the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program NEHRP, the Building Seismic Safety Council BSSC acts as a national forum to enhance public safety through improved seismic planning, design, construction and regulation within the building community.

The BSSC's primary m is to develop and mntn key resources on earthquake risk mitigation provisions for buildings and structures, which are vital in protecting lives during earthquakes and minimizing economic impacts after such disasters.
