Building Seismic Safety Council

Purpose Overview

Established in 1979 by Congress under the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program NEHRP, the Building Seismic Safety Council BSSC acts as a national forum to enhance public safety through improved seismic planning, design, construction and regulation within the building community.

The BSSC's primary m is to develop and mntn key resources on earthquake risk mitigation provisions for buildings and structures, which are vital in protecting lives during earthquakes and minimizing economic impacts after such disasters. Their work forms the basis for professional design standards and plays a pivotal role in guiding government programs and industry practices.

Objectives

Board of Directors

• To evaluate research findings, methodologies, and field investigations to refine seismic safety provisions.

Professional User Community PUC

• To provide ongoing education on seismic design principles through trning materials, webinars, workshops, and colloquia, catering specifically to structural engineers, architects, academics, researchers, code officials, manufacturers, and suppliers.

Field Research Technical Committee FRTC

• To promote the adoption of these provisions by national standards and model building codes, advising governing bodies on their research, development, and implementation programs.

Membership

• Facilitate collaboration with leading experts across disciplines to strengthen and disseminate knowledge in earthquake engineering through collective efforts.
