Exploration of Employment Experiences and Factors Influencing Employability among Individuals Living with Schizophrenia in China: A Qualitative Study

Objective:

This study med to investigate the employment experiences of people living with schizophrenia in China, as well as identify factors that impact their employability.

:

A qualitative research design was employed using in-depth interviews conducted with 24 individuals purposefully selected for this study.

Findings:

We developed a comprehensive framework elucidating various factors that influence the employability of those living with schizophrenia:

1 Individual Factors: Health status, well-being, work skills and experiences, educational attnment, social network support, ger, and age were key individual attributes affecting motivation to work and performance.

2 Personal Circumstances: Socioeconomic conditions of family, caregiving responsibilities, influenced decisions regarding employment.

3 External Influences: Labor market dynamics, macroeconomic context, stigma associated with mental illness, access to mental health services, and policy impacts determined the likelihood of employment and job type avlability for individuals living with schizophrenia.

Implications:

The study highlights that a complex array of factors interplays to affect employability in this group. This suggests a need for multifaceted strategies focusing on enhancing individual skills, improving access to support networks, mitigating stigma, increasing mental health service provision, and advocating for supportive employment policies.

Objective:

Findings:

A framework delineating influences on employment experiences and factors impacting employability emerged:

  3. External factors including labor market conditions, economic context, stigma, mental health services avlability, and policy considerations.
